BRASS is a new kind of virtual instrument: a software recreation of the trumpet, saxophone, and trombone. This software allows you to play instruments like a professional
performer would do: same control, flexibility, and expressiveness. The software will quickly enable you to reach a stage where you feel like you are playing a REAL instrument.
A Syncrosoft protection key (also called USB dongle) is required in order to test a demo version . If you have bought some recent Steinberg products (Cubase for example) you might already have this USB dongle. Otherwise you can order it for 14 Euro. http://www.arturia.com The demo is a full version which will work for a limited time.
I tried the demo. There is one negative point I have to mention, sometimes when I played I heard clicks and plops. I hope that in time this problem will be solved. Another thing that could be done better is the unnatural sounding attack when you play slurred fast riffs.
I tried a lot of different settings but the trumpet kept on sounding like it was plucked instead of blown.
Brass could bring the ultimate kick for those who are looking for the real feel (in combination with a computer).
But try it before you buy it!
I think, when programmed and played right the trumpet and trombone are great.
Interface and layout are very well designed.
I think this is the best part of Brass. You can patch Breath Control to different items. You can patch a second contoller like a MIDI keyboard, Brass detects the contollers you use.
You can use that same MIDI keyboard to trigger glides in the trombone sound.
